PM Narendra Modi after holding an enormously successful roadshow that was attended by tens of thousands of people as it wound its way through Varanasi from Pandeypur Chauraha all way to the rally site of Mahatma Gandhi Road Kashi Vidyapeeth tore into the opposition leaders, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav and Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi for their efforts to bad mouth not only his economic policies, his alleged promotion of the Sangh agenda and even launching personal attacks on him. Varanasi is PM Modi’s Parliamentary constituency and he is eager to prove that he is still as popular as ever here. With this in mind, not only has he already spent 2 days there, he will also be staying in the city another day (Monday) to ensure that a big victory is ensured in the assembly elections. He is being accompanied by the party candidates in the polls. PM Modi had gone to the Kashi Vishwanath and Kaal Bhairav temples yesterday to pay obeisance there. In his speech, PM Modi highlighted the work that he has got done in Varanasi since he was elected as the Member of Parliament from there.

Starting his speech with a loud ‘Bharat Mata ki jai’ and ‘Har, Har Mahadev’ in a sing-song manner, and after naming a number of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders in Uttar Pradesh as well as the candidates standing in the Assembly elections, PM Narendra Modi, clearly pleased with the effect he created said, that because of ‘your blessing (aashirvaad), I have been given the opportunity to serve the region’. This set in motion ear-splitting chants of ‘Modi-Modi’.

He thereafter proceeded to lambast the Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav as well as the other opposition parties. Saying that the NDA government’s agenda and vision are driven by ‘Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas’, PM Modi said, “Be it SP, Congress, or BSP, they have created a tradition of Kuchch Ka Saath, Kuchch ka Vikas.” He said that this kind of disrcimination is unacceptable. UP or India as a whole cannot develop in such conditions, PM Modi said and added, “Sabka Saath and Sabka Vikas go together. One is not possible without the other. All our policies are directed to develop eastern Uttar Pradesh. All our energies are directed at empowering the region that has been neglected for decades. The region is blessed with resources and manpower. The only thing missing is that it does not have the right government.” PM Modi said that he will change the business as usual model that these parties have carried to bleed the state, especially through corruption.

PM Modi said that the central help to the state meant to even improve the health of the people is syphoned off and never reaches the patients concerned. Taking the name of the dreaded disease Japanese encephalitis that has been prevalent in this region, PM Modi said, “To serve the patients of this state, Centre sends funds to the UP government, but I am sorry to say that these people here in power do not even have the capability to use that properly.”

“Eastern Uttar Pradesh has to scale new heights of development,” said PM Modi and added, that he will no loger tolerate what has been happening in the state. “I will hold everybody to account here. From the politicians to the bureaucrats, I will throw them all out if they do not contribute to the welfare of the people of the state. They will suffer terribly once we get the power to change things here.”

Saying that he believes in India and the honesty of the people, he said that “If the state government works honestly, the bureaucrats work honestly, I know that my country’s businessmen will not steal even 1 rupee. What will follow in the state is development and progress. Every person in the state will be empowered to earn thereafter. Quality of life will improve. I have made a scheme that, by 2022, every family in India will have a house of their own to stay in. I gave advise to Akhilesh, gave much more than that too. But they did not lend a willing ear.”
