Congress Vice-President Rahul Gandhi has been in news for his absurd remarks in the past and on Monday, he made a similar statement while promoting his party in the 2017 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections. Addressing a rally at UP’s Jaunpur district, Rahul Gandhi revealed his wish of seeing Michelle Obama using Made in Jaunpur utensils one day. Rahul said he wishes that when Michelle cooks food in America, she should look at a utensil and wonder how beautiful it is only to realise that it is made in Jaunpur. “Jb Obama Ji ki patni Amreeka me apni rasoi me kuch pakaye; patilon ko dekhke kahen sundar patila hai aur patile pe likha ho Made in Jaunpur.”

What he may not realise is that somewhere, the Congress vice-president is promoting PM Narendra Modi’s idea of ‘Make in India’. That’s like the best possible thing BJP or Narendra Modi could have asked for. The smartest way to win a battle is by using your opponent to fight for you without him realising it and that’s exactly what Modi is making Rahul Gandhi do. The Congress Vice-President is so nervous or confused that he is failing to understand that he is only increasing BJP’s chances of winning.

This wasn’t the first instance when he made a remark like this and was in the news last week for his ‘Made in Manipur’ statement. Addressing a rally in Imphal, Rahul wished ‘Made in Manipur’ goods to be sold in the other parts of the world. He said, “Here (in Manipur) you grow nimbu, narangi (oranges), pineapple… I hope that such a day comes that when someone in London drinks pineapple juice, they look at the box and see ‘Made in Manipur’.”

These are Rahul Gandhi’s dreams and wishes and he is entitled to have them without anyone questioning it but in the very next line, he questioned Prime Minister Narendra Modi by asking ‘what has he done for the state’! Now, what Rahul may have forgotten is that Manipur has a Congress government and if goes in that state and tells people that they are being ignored, before any other party or leader, it’s Congress that comes under scrutiny.

For once you can say, okay! Rahul might have got it wrong and we should spare him. But, Rahul won’t let you forget him that easily! He followed it with another statement today where he said that PM Modi has been doing roadshows for last three days just to cover the failure of the previous day. “Banaras mein Modiji ki picture ka bar bar retake ho raha hai, 4 din mein Modiji ne 4 baar retake liya magar baat nahi ban rahi.” he said.

Had Rahul Gandhi read newspapers or seen TV for some time, he would have realised that isn’t the case. Yes, the crowd that turned out for Narendra Modi in Varanasi, by no means signal a victory for him but one cannot run away from his growing status in Uttar Pradesh. With just 5 days remaining for counting of votes, Rahul Gandhi should focus on finding new ways to defeat BJP and Modi, rather than building his paradise because it isn’t working for him.
