UP polls 2017: Prime Minister, Narendra Modi who is in Varanasi currently to campaign for the 2017 assembly polls had a very busy day on Saturday. He conducted many roadshows and held many rallies. During his speech in Jaunpur, PM Modi had said, “Back in 2014, I could not visit Varanasi, my people, since then I wished to visit you. Election Commission did not allow me to carry out rally in Kashi.” In Jaunpur, the prime minister invoked surgical strikes conducted last year and slammed the opposition parties for politicising the issue. “Those who question surgical strikes come to Jaunpur and ask the families of martyrs. Why politicise issues of national security,” he had said. Early yesterday, he had paid obeisance at the historic Kashi Vishwanath and Kaal Bhairav temples as part of his mega road show.

Narendra Modi continued his campaign for the second day today. The roadshow was followed by a rally that kicked off at 5 pm. Along with the PM, road shows were held by PM Modi and UP Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav and Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi through the holy city today.

The BJP leaders said Modi’s road show were different as they covered a different and much wider area during which the party candidates accompanied him. In his election speech he lashed out at other parties and said…

Five key takeaways from Modi’s speech:

1. PM Narendra Modi says the NDA government’s agenda and vision are driven by ‘Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas’. “Be it SP, Congress, or BSP, they have created a tradition of Kuchch Ka Saath, Kuchch ka Vikas.” He said that this kind of discrimination is unacceptable. UP or India as a whole cannot develop in such conditions.

2. Modi added. “Sabka Saath and Sabka Vikas go together. One is not possible without the other. All our policies are directed to develop eastern Uttar Pradesh. All our energies are directed at empowering the region that has been neglected for decades. The region is blessed with resources and manpower. The only thing missing is that it does not have the right government. But now, change is on the way.”

3. PM Modi highlighted the fact that the central help to the state meant to improve the health of the people is syphoned off and never reaches patients concerned. PM Modi said, “ To get rid of Japanese encephalitis that has been prevalent in this region and to serve the patients of this state, Centre sends funds to the UP government, but I am sorry to say that these people here in power do not even have the capability to use that properly. Such sorry state of affairs has to be ended forthwith”.

4. PM Modi indicated he will hold everybody to account here. He said, “From the politicians to the bureaucrats, I will throw them all out if they do not contribute to the welfare of the people of the state. They will suffer terribly once we get the power to change things here.”

5. PM Modi said that his government has made a scheme that, by 2022, will ensure every family will have a house of their own to stay in. He added, “I gave advise to Akhilesh, gave much more than that too. But they did not lend a willing ear. The state government did not even bother to provide us a list of homeless people.”
