As the political heat across Uttar Pradesh intensifies with the ongoing assembly elections, Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi today took fresh jibe at Prime Minister NArendra Modi over his ‘maa Ganga’ remarks. Addressing a public rally in Varanasi, the Congress leader stated that PM Modi has made deals with ‘Maa Ganga’. Rahul further taunted the PM and said, “Maa Ganga hum sabki hai. Modiji rishta banate hain.Maa Ganga ko sirf ek beta mila woh bhi Gujarat mein (Maa Ganga belongs to us all. Modi ji makes relationships. Maa Ganga found only one son and that too in Gujarat).
Earlier in the day, the Congress today accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of “misleading” the country with his “blatant lies” on various issues including the “coconut juice” jibe on Rahul Gandhi, for which it demanded his apology. The Opposition party hit out at Modi for not fulfilling any of the promises made to farmers, ex-servicemen and the poor and accused him of doing “treachery” with farmers.

“Blatant lies, jumlas and disinformation have become the hallmark of India’s Prime Minister. The truth is that Modi ji does not speak the truth,” Congress chief spokesperson Randeep Surjewala told reporters.
Showing a video of Rahul’s speech in Manipur and that of the Prime Minister at a rally in Uttar Pradesh, the Congress leader said it is more than apparent in the video that Modi is trying to mislead the nation and people of Uttar Pradesh. Surjewala was referring to a remark made by the Congress vice president about progress made by a northeastern state which is essentially part of India’s growth story.
Bitter poll campaign with sharp attacks and counter-attacks came to a close this evening for the 49 Uttar Pradesh assembly seats, the voting for which is to be held on March 4 with SP patron Mulayam Singh Yadav’s Azamgarh Lok Sabha constituency being in focus. Assembly segments of Gorakhpur Lok Sabha constituency of firebrand BJP leader Yogi Adityanath, and Mau, where jailed gangster-turned-MLA Mukhtar Ansari is in fray, also figure in this sixth and penultimate phase of polling. The campaigning saw BJP state president KP Maurya likening rivals SP, Congress and BSP to different types of venomous “snakes” and “social cancer” and urging people to eliminate them by voting for the BJP.
