This will be Priyanka’s first election rally of the ongoing polling season. It has been learned that Rahul will address two rallies in Rae Bareli town and Maharajganj in support of party candidate Aditi Singh. Priyanka will accompany Rahul to these rallies in Rae Bareli Assembly constituency, reports say. Notably, Congress President Sonia Gandhi represents Rae Bareli in the Lok Sabha, while Rahul is MP from neighbouring Amethi. Sonia has stayed away from poll campaign so far. According to the report, she might address rallies in the constituency on February 18. Assembly constituencies under Amethi and Rae Bareli which will go to polls in the 4th and 5th phase of polling in the state on February 23 and 27. Alliance partners Congress and Samajwadi Party are fighting with each other on several Assembly seats where both parties have fielded their candidates.
69 Assembly seats spread over 12 districts of Uttar Pradesh that will go to polls in the third phase on February 19. The districts are Farrukhabad, Hardoi, Kannauj, Mainpuri, Etawah, Auraiya, Kanpur Dehat, Kanpur, Unnao, Lucknow, Barabanki and Sitapur. In the 2012 Assembly polls, SP had won 55 of these 69 seats, while BSP, BJP and Congress secured just 6, 5 and 2 respectively. One seat went to an Independent.

Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi had attacked on Prime Minister Narendra Modi and said that his promise of farm loan waiver is one of many such “false promises” he has made. “Modiji makes false promises, and loan waiver promise for farmers in these elections will be another promise of the same kind,” Rahul said at an election rally in Leharpur Assembly constituency here.
“The Prime Minister should look into the problems he has imposed on the poor through his note ban decision, instead of speaking about his ‘mann ki baat’,” he said, referring to the Prime Minister’s monthly radio address.

Hitting out at the Prime Minister’s ‘Make in India’ campaign, he said, “Even the phones we are using are Chinese (made) and Indian money is going there. We want Indian products to be sold in China.” No employment has been generated and Rs 15 lakh has not been deposited in accounts of the poor and instead their government waived Rs 1.40 lakh crore of debts only to benefit 50 industrial houses while this amount could have been used for betterment of farmers and small industries, he said. On the Samajwadi Party-Congress alliance, he said it would turn Uttar Pradesh into “Uttam Pradesh” if voted to power. “Free coaching to students will be given in every district of UP,” he said.
