As the curtains on the heated political campaign for the third phase of the crucial Uttar Pradesh assembly election are all set to come down on Friday, Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi today hit the campaign trail in Rae Bareli. With just two days left for the third phase poll, Priyanka Gandhi, sharing the stage with her brother and party vice-president Rahul Gandhi, hit out at the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Prime Minister Narendra Modi. While expectations of Congress followers stayed high as Priyanka addressed her first election rally of the year, her energy at the campaign, however, seemed low. With leaders from various parties hitting out at their opposition with full aggression, Priyanka Gandhi’s jibe at BJP and Modi sounded comparatively ineffective. Priyanka even didn’t respond to BJP leader Smriti Irani’s jibe against her.
In a short address to the rally, Priyanka attempted to boost the Akhilesh Yadav-Rahul Gandhi tie, by stating that every youth in Uttar Pradesh can become a leader and bring development in the state. Hitting out at PM Modi claim to be an ‘adopted son’ of Uttar Pradesh, Priyanka said that the state doesn’t need an adopted son to bring development. Accusing the Prime Minister of making hollow promises, Priyanka further stated that Modi has done nothing for his constituency, Varanasi.

Earlier speaking at the rally at Fatehpur, Rahul Gandhi once again brought up the issue of demonetisation to attack Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Rahul Gandhi said that BJP senior leader LK Advani is unemployed because PM Modi. “Modiji jo bhi karte hain apne aap karte hain, Advaniji ka pura kaam khench liya, Sushmaji, Jaitleyji ke paas koi kaam nahi hai (Modi ji does all work on his own, he has left nothing for LK Advani, even Sushma Swaraj and Arun Jaitley are left with no work) “, he said. He also brought up the demonetisation move that was implemented by the Prime Minister in November 2016. He said, “Aapka paisa jo bank mein jama hai, ussay Modiji 50 parivaaron ka karza maaf karenge (With your money in the banks, PM Modi will lay off the debt of 50 families). “
