After a much anticipated months long political battle, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has finally formed government in politically crucial Uttar Pradesh on Sunday with firebrand BJP MP Yogi Adityanath elected as the new chief minister of the state. With 2 deputy CMs and 44 cabinet ministers designated to take the beacon ahead in the state, ministers took oath today at the Smriti Upvan in Lucknow replacing Akhilesh Yadav-led Samajwadi Party (SP) government. The swearing-in ceremony took place with some prominent BJP leaders including Prime Minister Narendra Modi and party President Amit Shah in attendance. Soon after the ceremony was concluded PM Modi took to Twitter and congratulated Adityanath and his team on taking up the charge. PM Modi made it very clear that ‘development’ will be the prime agenda of Adityanath-led government in UP. Even in party’s manifesto development of the state was the only pitch that was highlighted. The “Lok Kalyan Sankalp Patra 2017”, or people welfare’s resolve document that was released by national president Amit Shah before elections focused largely on farmers, youth, anti-corruption, law and order, and employment.

Apart from improving law and order in the state, one of BJP’s prime objective would be to create employment opportunities here. A double digit growth rate, ease of doing business and providing platforms for start-ups will be party’s key focus. As per BJP’s election manifesto, opportunity will be created for about 70 lakh jobs, empty government job positions will be filled, a start-up venture capital fund to be set up, laptops for youth with 1GB internet, free education up to graduation for girls and 12th class for boys.
On infrastructure it has promised new metro lines in Lucknow and Noida, metro services in Kanpur, Allahabad and construction of new airports. The party has already proposed several mega infrastructure projects including extended metro connectivity and Jewar airport development programme.
