A day after Prime Minister Narendra Modi shocked ex-PM Manmohan Singh by saying that the latter knows “how to bath with a raincoat”, BJP president Amit Shah lashed out at Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi. The BJP leader told Rahul Gandhi to recall what his mother had said about Modi in past.
Responding to Modi’s comment in the Rajya Sabha, Rahul Tweeted, “When a Prime Minister reduces himself to ridiculing his predecessor-years his senior, he hurts the dignity of the parliament and the nation. He demeans his position and himself more than anyone else. Today’s events were saddening and frankly they were shameful.”

However, Shah took Rahul to task while addressing a rally at Tehri in Uttarakhand. Shah said that Rahul Gandhi cannot comment in PM Modi’s remark as he had himself humiliated Manmohan Singh by rejecting Cabinet decision during UPA rule. Further, Shah also reminded Rahul of what Sonia Gandhi had once said about Modi, when he was Gujarat Chief Minister. Sonia had called Modi a “maut ke saudagar” (merchant of death).
Shah also said that though the former PM never took responsibility for the scams that took place under the UPA regime, he can neither run away from the blames. “Prime Minister Modi is speaking the truth that Manmohan Singh didn’t take responsibility of any of the scams. But he can neither run away from the various irregularities that took place during the UPA regime,” Shah said.

Backing PM Modi’s remarks in Rajya Sabha, Shah said Singh should be held accountable for the scams that took place during his regime.
Further taking a jibe at Rahul for questioning the BJP-led NDA government’s accountability in two-and-a-half years, Shah said, “In two and a half years we have accomplished one important thing. We gave a speaking Prime Minister to the country, but the Congress government on the other hand gave us a Prime Minister whose voice could only be heard by Rahul and his mother.”
PM Modi yesterday trained guns on Singh, accusing him of letting corruption run free under his nose but managing to steer clear of any charges.
“Dr. Manhmohan has played a significant role in the economic system of India. But during the most corrupt regime in the nation, there was not a single corruption charge against him. This art of taking bath wearing a raincoat must be learnt from Manmohan Singh,” Modi said.
