Priyanka's three-day 140-km-long Ganga ride will start today from Prayagraj and end at Assi Ghat in Varanasi, the parliamentary constituency of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra will launch the party’s campaign for the Lok Sabha polls today from Prayagraj. Vadra was recently appointed the party’s general secretary for eastern Uttar Pradesh and will be the go-to leader for the party’s campaign in the region believed to be a bastion of Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and also has Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Varanasi seat. Priyanka arrived in Lucknow on Sunday afternoon and held several meetings with party leaders and reviewed preparations for the upcoming Lok Sabha polls.
Today, Priyanka will embark on a three-day Ganga tour from Prayagraj to Varanasi. During her Ganga ride, Priyanka will meet people and also connect with Congress workers. As per the strategy, her focus will be the people like the fishermen community, Bind community and others residing near the banks of the Ganga. Besides, she will also try to dent the upper caste votes of the BJP as she will touch many Rajput and Brahmin dominated villages. She left for Prayagraj late last night.

Priyanka’s three-day 140-km-long Ganga ride will start today from Prayagraj and end at Assi Ghat in Varanasi, the parliamentary constituency of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. During her journey, she will stop at several places and hold public meetings and meet party cadres. With Priyanka embarking on a boat ride, the Congress is hopeful of a change in its fortune in eastern Uttar Pradesh where BJP has a stronghold. The Congress is also expecting that its old cadres would revive with this yatra.
The Congress leader will first offer prayers at the Sangam and then perform Ganga pooja at Chhatnag. From here, Priyanka’s journey would begin. She will first stop at Dum Dum, 40 km from Chhatnag. The local Congress leadership has made all arrangements to give a rousing welcome to Priyanka here. The Congress leader will meet public here and hold talks with the workers.
From Dum Dum, Priyanka will go to Sisra, 10 km from here, and tour the villages. She will then proceed to Tutihar and Kaundhiyara from road. She will meet the family of Pulwama martyr Maheshraj yadav and briefly stay at the guest house.
Next day, Priyanka will resume her journey to Rampur Ghat in Bhadohi. Here, the local Congress leadership has made elaborate arrangements to give a rousing welcome to Priyanka. The Congress leader will also go to Mirzapur, a seat represented by BJP ally Apna Dal, and Vindhyahal where she will meet advocates and bunkers. As per the itinerary of her trip, she will perform special pooja at Maa Vindhyavasini Mandir in Vindhyachal.
The same day, she will go to Chunar and hold a roadshow. She will spend night here. Next day, she will visit Varanasi, the BJP’s stronghold and PM Narendra Modi’s Lok Sabha constituency. The administration has given clearance to Priyanka’s three-day trip. She is allowed to use 10 vehicles in her convoy and two loudspeakers.
It also expected that Priyanka will highlight the failure of Namami Gange project of Modi government. However, Union minister Nitin Gadkari has claimed that a lot work has been done by the government and that Priyanka will not get any chance to question the government.
Uttar Pradesh has 80 Lok Sabha seats of which 40 are in the eastern region of the state. Priyanka is the second most prominent leader in the Congress party. She was recently appointed as the general secretary by her brother and Congress president Rahul Gandhi.
Uttar Pradesh will vote in seven phases in the upcoming Lok Sabha polls between April 11 and May 19. The counting of votes will take place on May 23.
