After winning a massive support of people of Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand along with the confidence of people in Goa and Manipur, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has now targeted Delhi. The saffron party is gearing up to contest in the three municipal corporations namely North Delhi Municipal Corporation (NDMC), South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) and East Delhi Municipal Corporation (EDMC). To ensure its victory, the party has roped in several celebrity faces to its campaign besides applying its political strategies. Here are the 10 important facts about the strategies of BJP for MCD polls you want to know:

1: The Phogar sisters, that become favourite name of almost every household after Aamir Khan starrer “Dangal” has been roped in to campaign for BJP in the civic polls. Bhojpuri star Ravi Kishan, and several other achievers from different fields also brought in to shore up party’s fortunes in the high-stakes MCD elections next month.

2: The polls due on April 22 will be a star-studded one and talks are also on with cricketer Shikhar Dhawan for canvassing, Sources told PTI. “Our triumphs in Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand have given fresh impetus to our workers and volunteers and to add to that strength we are bringing in big faces as well,” the source said.

3: The huge victory of party in Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand has boosted the morale and confiodence of party workers who are now preparing hard to rule Delhi with winning the MCD polls. A source told PTI, that they are are going all-out in the MCD polls and have set a very high target for their party.

4: The party chief Amit Shah hilself along with General Secretary (Organisation) Ramlal and Union minister M Venkaiah Naidu are already slated to address a convention at Ramlila Maidan today.

5: Amit Shah has appointed V Sahasrabuddhe, Jitendra Singh, Nirmala Sitharaman, Sanjeev Balyan and Shyam Jaju to supervise Delhi Municipal Poll campaign for the party on Saturday (March 18).

6: BJP Delhi chief Manoj Tiwari has requested Prime Minister Narendra Modi to address the voters once before the polls. “We also hope PM Modiji will address the crowd at least once. We are going to write to him requesting for his presence, but nonetheless he is our guiding force,” he said. The PM had put all his effort to woo the voters of five states before the state assembly polls including his three-day stay in his parliamentary constituency, Varanasi of Uttar Pradesh.

7: Poorvanchali community members constitute a big chunk of voters in Delhi and therefore the party is also front Ravi Kishan in its campaigns, to woo people hailing from Bihar and eastern Uttar Pradesh.

8: The erstwhile MCD was trifurcated into North, South and East Delhi Municipal Corporations in 2012. While NDMC and SDMC have 104 seats each, EDMC has 64. The BJP has ruled out giving tickets to its sitting councillors.

9: The BJP has decided to field only new faces in the polls, triggering resentment in a section of sitting councillors, especially senior leaders, who feel, the candidates should be a mix of “experienced hands and fresh blood”.

10: The party sources said they are not competing with Congress or Arvind Kejriwal-led Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), but with themselves and they don’t want to keep a humble target anymore, after elections in UP and other states.
