Arvind Kejriwal's AAP is contesting the civic polls and with over a month left, the party has started targeting other political parties competing with it.
MCD Polls: After conclusion of the assembly polls of five states, the national capital is set to go through the civic polls. The election to three municipal corporations of Delhi will be held on April 22. The poll panel has started sending requisitions to various departments of Central and state governments including civic bodies to spare their employees for the same. The BJP has 163 councillors in the three civic bodies, namely North Delhi Municipal Corporation (NDMC), South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) and East Delhi Municipal Corporation (EDMC). These bodies constitute 272 seats, with NDMC and SDMC accounting for 104 seats each, while 64 seats fall under EDMC. The counting of votes will take place on April 25, 2017.

The party’s main strategy is to attack the other parties on charges of rampant corruption in the municipal bodies. Responding to the BJP’s announcement of not repeating their sitting councillors in the upcoming municipal polls, the party has claimed that the move is a “silent admission that the BJP councillors are corrupt”, reported the Indian Express. The Delhi unit convener of AAP, AAP Delhi unit convener said, “if there was a list of then world’s most corrupt bodies, MCD will be on the top.” He claimed that “be it cleaning garbage, pension schemes or salaries of safai karamcharis, there have been scams in all of them… This is an open admission by the BJP that party councillors have been looting the city”.

Meanwhile, it has also started door-to-door campaign to woo the voters. If talk about the candidates the party, that was planning to review the candidature of the aspirants declared so far, on Thursday said it would not do so unless there are any serious charges against them.
