Addressing a campaign rally in Manipur’s Imphal, Prime Minister Naredndra Modi on Saturday said that country’s development is incomplete without Nort East’s development. Taking a dig at Congress, the PM said that Grand Old Party ‘ignored’ region for the past 15 years. “In 2014 when I was PM candidate, there was a rally at same place, but even half the ground was not occupied. Today its packed with crowd,” PM Narendra Modi said in Imphal. “No work done in 15 years, Congress ignored North East,” he added. “Until North-East does not progress, the country’s progress will never be complete,” PM Modi said.  PM’s visit is a part of campaigning for the two-phased Assembly polls in the state. The venue of the rally was shifted from Kangla Fort to Langjing Achouba after Irom Sharmila’s People Resurgence and Justice Alliance (PRJA) raised objections. Voting will be held on 4th and 8th of next month. 266 candidates including ten women are in the fray.  Congress and BJP are the two main players in the election fight. Congress has fielded 59 candidates and BJP 60. Trinamool Congress has fielded 16, NCP 7, CPI 6 and CPI(M) two. Among the regional parties, Naga People’s Front has fielded 16 candidates and People’s Democratic Alliance (PDA) one. Twenty three Independents are also in the fray.

Assuring of economic development, Modi said no economic blockade will be there when BJP comes to power. “There will never be an economic blockade when BJP comes to power in Manipur, I assure you this,” PM said. He added that Congress failed to take forward the initiative of Atal Bihari Vajpayee government. “Those who cannot ensure peace in the state have no right to govern Manipur. They made brothers here fight each other,” Modi said.

“The corruption that took place in Manipur in last 15 years, we will expose everything,” PM Modi added. “When Atal ji formed Government, he made policies for overall development of Northeast. But Congress did not carry the good work forward,” PM said. “Since last 40 years no PM of the country came to North-East for NEC Meeting. After Morarji Desai I am the only one who visited,” PM said. “Wherever Congress is in power there is no development, there is only corruption,” PM added. “What they (Congress) did not do in last 15 years, I assure we will do it in 15 months,” Modi said. “It has been 15 years,Manipur has been ruined. Who is responsible? Congress did no development,do they deserve to be here now?” PM asked in Imphal.
