The Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) on Monday released its manifesto for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. The party has listed out 75 resolutions that it has promised to fulfil by 2022.  Some of the promises like the abrogation of Article 370 and 35 A have upset the NC and PDP. Mehbooba Mufti and Farooq Abdullah slammed the BJP saying the move further alienate Jammu and Kashmir from India.

The Congress dubbed the BJP manifesto as jumla document that no one would believe. Senior Congress leader Ahmed Patel said that the saffron party simply copy pasted its last manifesto and changed all previous deadlines from 2019 to 2022, 2032, 2047, 2097.

“Luckily they didn’t shift any deadlines to the next century. The difference between BJP manifesto and Congress manifesto can be seen firstly from the cover page. Ours has a crowd of people, and BJP manifesto has the face of just one man. Instead of a manifesto, BJP should have come out with a ‘maafinama’,” he said in a tweet. However, defence minister Nirmala Sitharaman hit out at the Congress saying it should read the manifesto first then talk.

Results were declared on May 16. The BJP achieved an absolute majority with 282 seats in 543 members Lower House, 166 seats more than the previous elections. The NDA had won 336 seats. The Congress had won just 44 seats. There is no Leader of Opposition in the outgoing 16th Lok Sabha as the Parliament rules state that a party must have at least 10% of the total seats. This time again, the main contest is between the two national parties -- BJP and Congress. While the BJP is seeking second term in office, the Congress led by Rahul Gandhi is aiming to oust Modi and Amit Shah from the power. The elections will be held in seven phases between April 11 and May 19. Results will be declared on May 23. The tenure of current Lok Sabha ends on June 3.
