Gujarat Lok Sabha election results 2019 Highlights: The counting of votes for 26 Lok Sabha seats in Gujarat is underway amid tight security. The trends at the moment are showing huge shot in the arm for saffron party as it is winning on all seats in the state. Even party president Amit Shah is leading by over 3,00,000 votes. The party it seems is making up from Gujarat on a number of seats it may lose in Uttar Pradesh. the party is also doing well from West Bengal. With the party all set to return to power at the centre along with other NDA allies, Amit Shah is expected to reach party headquarters in New Delhi later today.
The state which has been the BJP’s stronghold for the last three decades went to polls in a single phase on April 23. It recorded a turnout of 64.11%, the highest since 1976 when there was around 63.77% polling. In the previous general elections held in 2014, the home state of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP president Amit Shah, witnessed 63.66% voting. At that time, the BJP scored a 100%, winning all the 26 parliamentary seats. The main contenders from the BJP this time are Amit Shah from Gandhinagar and Union minister Jaswantsinh Bhabhor from Dahod. The Congress has fielded former Union minister Bharatsinh Solanki from Anand and its leader of opposition in the Assembly Paresh Dhanani from Amreli seat.
Counting of votes are being held at 28 centres across the state with elaborate security arrangements in place at all the counting centres. Earlier, Both the BJP and Congressclaimed that they will perform well but the exit polls have predicted that Modi is still the favourite of over six crore Gujaratis. The saffron party was predicted to win 24 seats.
