Gujarat, the political backyard of Narendra Modi and Amit Shah, is witnessing a fierce battle between the Congress and the BJP. While the BJP is looking to retain power over the state, Rahul Gandhi led Congress eyes a turnaround. However, the opinion poll numbers show that the ruling BJP appears to be cruising to victory yet again. The aggressive campaigning saw Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Rahul engaged in attacks and counterattacks. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, was in Ahmedabad today, to cast his vote. While leaving after casting his vote, PM Modi waved to his fans and supporters. The incident hasn’t been taken well by the Congress and the party claims that Modi has bypassed the model code of conduct and also marched to the office of Election Commission to register its protest. Finance Minister Arun Jaitley, BJP chief Amit Shah, BJP Senior leader L K Advani and Patidar quota leader Hardik Patel are among the notable names who went to the polling booths to exercise their franchise.
Coming to South Gujarat, it has been BJP’s stronghold with the saffron party securing 28 out of 35 seats. The south of Gujarat include districts like Narmada, Bharuch, Surat, Tapi, Dangs, Navsari and Valsad. The region went to polls in the first phase on December 9.
