Gujarat Surat assembly election result 2017 LIVE UPDATES: BJP’s Bhagwanji leading by 1500 votes on Mangrol seat while Harsh Sanghvi leading on Majura seat. Gujarat wields high influence on the national politics, not just because of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP President Amit Shah, but because the so-called Gujarat model has been projected by the incumbent government as the development mantra for the whole nation. Congress President Rahul Gandhi, through his speeches, during the election campaign has made an attempt to break the talisman. But has he been successful in doing so? Come December 18, and we will get the answer. Meanwhile, to ensure peaceful and people-friendly elections, the Election Commissioner has instructed that every polling station should be equipped with Assured Minimum Facilities (AMF) like drinking water, shed, toilet, ramp for the physically challenged voters, a standard voting compartment etc. for the convenience and facilitation of voters. At least 182 women-managed polling stations will also be set up for the entire state of Gujarat for the first time. Coming to the Surat district, as per the 2011 Census, the Surat municipality had a population of 4.462 million. The district has 2,12,31,652 registered voters out of which 1,11,05,933 are men and the rest women. As per the Election Commission, the final voter turnout in the first phase of the Gujarat elections for 89 seats stood at 66.75 per cent which is well below 71.32 per cent voter turnout in 2012. The big names in the first phase of the poll included Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani and Congress’s Shaktisinh Gohil and Paresh Dhanani.
