Gujarat Rajkot election result 2017 LIVE UPDATES from Rajkot East, Rajkot West, Rajkot South, Rajkot Rural (SC), Jasdan, Gondal, Jetpur, Dhoraji constituencies: Contrary to the speculation of many, the battle for Gujarat hasn’t remained one-sided. With Congress President Rahul Gandhi taking the charge, the election campaign for the polls has intensified. The state saw a number of political rallies by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other senior leaders of BJP, Rahul Gandhi and the youth activists brigade which include Patidar quota agitation crusader Hardik Patel, Dalit leader Jignesh Mevani, and OBC leader Alpesh Thakor. Coming to the Rajkot constituency, it had a total of 235,417 registered electorates in the 2012 assembly polls. The battle for Rajkot-West seat which is considered as the BJP bastion is expected to see a close contention this time because of the high-profile contestants fighting for the seat. Gujarat chief minister Vijay Rupani will be facing a challenger in Congress’ Indranil Rajyaguru. Earlier, Indranil Rajguru of Indian National Congress won from Rajkot East in 2012 with 60,877 votes. It must be noted that Rajkot West or Rajkot-II is considered as ‘safe’ for the saffron party as it had been representing it since 1985. The constituency had 205 polling stations and went to polls in the first phase on December 9.
