BJP workers and leaders hit back at Congress in a very unique way today as it strode to yet another win as was clear from Gujarat election results 2017. BJP leader Tejinder Bagga distributed a mushroom cake to celebrate the party’s win in Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh assembly elections! There is a bit of recent history in the gesture. It has come as a taunt against rivals. Earlier, during the high ocatne poll campaign Rahul Gandhi led Congress’ ally Alpesh Thakore alleged that PM Narendra Modi’s complexion has become fair by consuming expensive mushroooms imported from Taiwan. He also alleged that the mushrooms consumed by PM Modi were worth lakhs. The remark had sparked an uproar, but it was not retracted. Where some criticized Thakore saying that he was indulging in shallow politics wereas others made memes and poked fun over the remark.

Gujarat OBC leader had taken a jibe at PM Modi’s culinary choices and also went on to say that the PM was dark as him (Thakore) in terms of complexion and the mushrooms that he consumes had made him fair. He further said that he has heard each of the mushrooms cost Rs 80,000 and the prime minister consumes five pieces on a daily basis.

At an election rally, the Radhanpur candidate had said: “Though the Prime Minister claims to be a common man, he is not so. He might claim his love for Gujarat but he dislikes Gujarati food. Thakore also accused the BJP of siphoning off the flood victims’ entitled government benefits. “The Rs 1,500 crore which was meant for the Banaskantha flood victims has not reached the beneficiaries but has found their way to the pockets of the Gujarat BJP leaders and workers.”

Thakore formed a front from the OBC community, Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe communities and called it the OSS Ekta Manch. Thereafter he joined hands with the Congress.
