The Uttar Pradesh police has assured the public that it will arrest rape accused Samajwadi Party (SP) minister in the Akhilesh Yadav goernment Gayatri Prajapati soon. Prajapati was booked in the cases of alleged sexual assault of a minor girl and alleged gangrape of her mother and when he approached the Supreme Court, it granted him no relief. According to the latest reports, a look out circular has been issued against him and 6 others involved in the case. His passport has been revoked and the airports have been put on alert so that he cannot fly out of the country. Meanwhile, cops have been alerted to catch the minister. According to Daljeet Chaudhary, ADG, Law and Order, UP, both district police and special task force (STF) are on the case and Prajapati will be arrested soon. Earlier this week, the police initiated proceedings for a look out notice against Prajapati following reports that he may try to escape abroad to evade arrest.
Gayatri Prajapati is standing in the ongoing assembly elections on a SP ticket from Amethi despite facing rape charges. This has given an opportunity to opposition parties to indulge in blame game against SP, the ruling party in Uttar Pradesh. PM Narendra Modi in his rally in Varanasi made a strong attack on SP, saying that the law and order situation in the state was very poor and that police stations have been turned into virtual party offices. Taking a jibe at SP, the PM said that in India, when people do something good, they chant the Gayatri Mantra. But, the SP-Congress alliance is chanting the Gayatri Prajapati Mantra. A case has been lodged against him (but) the Chief Minister (Akhilesh Yadav) wents to campaign for him while he (Gayatri) was present there and now, the police cannot trace him, said the PM. He also blamed CM Yadav for sleeping over the demand of justice by a ‘daughter’. The 16-year-old minor victim of sexual assault by the minister and his aides, has demanded the minister to be put behind bars and justice be done to herself and her mother.
Earlier, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) chief Amit Shah also targetted SP for not arresting Prajapati and said the party has listed sending the minister “behind bars” as one of the first tasks after forming the government in the state. The BJP leader claimed that as soon as BJP comes to power in the state, they would find him and bring him back even from hell and send him to jail.
