In a bid to make studies even more interesting and less stressful, the report cards of Class 1 & 2 students in the state of Madhya Pradesh will now have smileys instead of marks. This step is being taken by the Rajya Shiksha Kendra (RSK), or State Education Centre in MP to create a fear free atmosphere for the students. Once in practice, the annual cards of the students will have smileys instead of grades which will be a reason for them to smile. The government schools in the state of MP have been asked by the Rajya Shiksha Kendra (RSK), or State Education Centre to make the changes needed this year to promote a “fear-free atmosphere”.
Once the changes have been made by the schools in MP, the report cards of nearly 16 lakh students across the state will see smileys in place of marks. According to reports, three smileys will be awarded to those students who have achieved efficiency. Two will be awarded to those who are at the learning stage and one smiley will be given to those students who are required to make more effort.
According to the circular dated January 19 issued to all district education officers, district project coordinators, additional commissioner of tribal development department and principals of district education and training institutes in MP. The circular states that while smileys will replace marks in the report cards of Class 1, 2 students, the progress cards of tudents from Class 3 to 7 will follow the old pattern. In the circular, the RSK has stated that the idea stems from the recommendations made in the National Curriculum Framework (NCF).
The Rajya Shiksha Kendra (RSK) first wanted the tachers to draw smileys but realised it may not be easy for all. So according to the nerw system, the new progress cards, whose proforma has been attached with the circular, will have printed smileys and the teachers will tick the one appropriate for each student.
