In a big achievement, students of Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur have received more than 200 hundred Pre-Placement Offers (PPOs) by top multi-national companies, PTI reported on Wednesday. The companies which have offered jobs to the students include Goldman Sachs, Samsung, Qualcomm, Texas Instruments, Adobe Systems, Wipro among others. Moreover, these companies have offered more than 10 PPOs each, an IIT-KGP spokesperson said today. The receiving of such high number of PPOs has happened for the first time. The placement at the premium Indian institute is scheduled for December 1, 2017.
The report says that pre-placement offers have come as an outcome of internships which the students went for during the summer recess. “This is an encouraging sign for us that companies recognise our students’ hard work and motivation during the internship”, Professor in-charge of the Career Development Centre at IIT-KGP Prof Debasis Deb was quoted as saying. However, the performance at the time of internship may not be the only reason.
Deb said that wide choices are available in course curriculum through flexible academic programmes along with the dedicated and experienced faculty strength. The strong presence of the alumni across most of recruiting organisations is also a reason, he said. In another achievement, the college has also received more than 200 internship offers for the pre-final year students for the summer of 2018.
