The Narendra Modi government got a thumbs up from the World Bank for making ‘serious’ efforts to improve India’s ease-of-doing-business ranking to 50 from 142, which the agency believes is achievable in three years.

“If the government sustains the kind of efforts, then in 3 years they could come quite close and that would be a major achievement,” said Onno Ruhl, World Bank’s India head at the Idea Exchange Programme of the Indian Express Group on Wednesday.

The government was serious on the ranks prepared by the World Bank, even though there were some tough areas, especially those involving environment inspections and court rulings, he said.
