Port data paint a dull picture

The exim throughput growth slowed to 0.25x of the GDP growth in FY16, as against 1.35x prior to the global crisis. As for containerised cargo growth, the GDP multiplier for container traffic which had averaged 1.8x over FY06-10 came down to 0.9x in the FY11-16 period. ICICI Securities estimates it to average 1x over the FY17-23 period.
