Utility vehicle and motorcycle sales continued to register robust growth in volumes in August on the back of new launches and healthy rainfall received during the past three months across the country, reports fe Bureau in Mumbai. The M&HCV segment, on the other hand, maintained its down cycle as a result of the flood situation in some states and lack of freight from the agricultural, manufacturing and infrastructure sectors.
The utility vehicle segment registered a volume growth of 48.23% year-on-year to 65,745 units on the back of rising demand for Maruti’s Vitara Brezza and Hyundai’s Creta. Two offerings from Mahindra and Mahindra (M&M) — the KUV 100 and TUV 300 — have also managed to drive the volumes substantially during the month.
In passenger vehicles, volumes grew by 9% y-o-y to 177,829 units on the back of healthy demand for premium hatchbacks — Maruti’s Baleno and Hyundai’s i20 — and premium sedans like the Maruti Ciaz. The small-car and hatchback segment continued to register decline in volumes during the month.
Volumes in the economy two-wheeler segment grew 22.19% y-o-y to 100,5666 units in the domestic market. Most of the offerings in the economy and executive segment from the top three manufacturers — Hero, Honda and Bajaj — managed to do well during the month. Hero managed to cross the 6 lakh sales figure for the third time this fiscal.
The scooter segment managed to post a 32.92% y-o-y growth in volumes on the back of increasing demand for the Honda Activa. Other products like the Hero Maestro and Duet along with the TVS Jupiter too did well.
