The Kerala High Court on Friday stayed the order of the National Green Tribunal (NGT) banning diesel vehicles with engines above 2000 cc and over 10 years old in Kerala’s big cities.

The order was passed by Justice PB Suresh Kumar in a petition filed by Nippon Toyota. The hearing in this case before the NGT is now on July 29.

A circuit bench of the NGT had banned diesel vehicles more than 10 years old from plying in the cities of Thiruvananthapuram, Kochi, Calicut, Thrissur, Kollam and Kannur on May 23.

It had also directed the state government not to allow registration of any diesel vehicle with a capacity of 2000 cc and above in the interim, save for public transport and local authority vehicles.
