Narendra Modi in Russia: PM addresses Petersburg International Economic Forum 2017, invites Russian firms to come ‘Make in India’

Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed a Plenary Session of St. Petersburg International Economic Forum 2017. The Prime Minister is in Russia on the third leg of his four-nation visit. PM Modi says that the underlying trust in India and Russia’s relationship has grown stronger & deeper with time. The Prime Minister added that the political will, political stability and a clear vision has brought transformative reforms in India.

PM Modi added that ”We started the ‘Digital India’ campaign to close the digital divide, as this divide can create a lot of problems in any society”. The PM added that the government’s aim is to bridge the digital divide, over the last three years, the impetus of the government to financial inclusion has been tremendous.

The PM has invited Russian companies to manufacture defence equipment and medicine in India. PM Modi says that India will be a great hub of manufacturing defence equipment as India itself has a large market for defence equipment.

While addressing the forum Prime Minister Modi said that India is a fast growing economy and leading global agencies now have the same sentiment, he added that India is now among the top FDI destinations in the world.

The Prime Minister said that India is urbanising rapidly and needs to upgrade its infrastructure and waste management system, adding that he sees immense opportunities in the manufacturing industry. He said that there are limitless opportunities in manufacturing in the healthcare, defence and the services sectors.

Modi in his speech said that the cultural heritage of India is dedicated to nature, to the study of the environment and that the exploitation of nature is a crime. He added that instead of relying on traditional sources of energy, India is targeting to set an installed capacity of 175 GW of renewable energy. The PM said that India is a responsible nation with respect to climate change and stressed the commitment to ‘Zero defect’ in manufacturing & ‘Zero effect’ on the environment.

PM Modi ended his address by inviting Russian firms to India. The PM said ”125 crore people of India are inviting you- explore the opportunities in India”.
