Rail Vikas Nigam (RVNL) and Dighi Port (DPL) have inked an MoU to lay a railway line between Dighi and Roha in Maharashtra, integrating the region with DMIC.
Speaking at a function held here to ink the MoU, Maharashtra chief minister Devendra Fadnavis said the most significant points of connectivity in the state were Yavatmal, Gadchiroli, Beed, Nanded and Ahmednagar. Hre said the project would change the entire landscape of the state.
Speaking on the occasion, Union minister for railways Suresh Prabhu said 20% economic growth in Maharashtra would add 2% to the overall economic growth of India. “Maharashtra will automatically develop if the coastal areas have ports and can be connected with rest of the state through rail and road connections,” he said.
“Government will not be a facilitator, but an initiator, and will closely monitor the partnership models in the country. State and central government will make efforts toward improving port infrastructure and its growth,” said Prabhu.
Prabhu said $150 billion of investment was required in the railway sector. Besides, Rs 8,050 crore was required for further connecting the country with railways, he added.
Union minister for heavy industries Anant Geete said the Konkan area is the ideal location for port development as it is rich in natural and agri resources and has the potential to grow.
