Sensex in the early morning today climbed 109 points after investors buying raiseed momentum in the middle of mixed Asian cues.
The Sensex today rose for the third straight day and Nifty settled below 8,150 as late selling in several sectors like IT, banking, FMCG and pharma shares grabbed most gains logged in by the benchmark indices earlier in the day. Both indices for the most part of the day traded higher led by surges in auto shares. In the intraday deals, the Sensex saw 237 points at its highest level in the day and Nifty touched 8,197.35.
At close, the Sensex ended 44 points or 0.17 per cent higher at 26,394 and Nifty gained by 15 points or 0.19 per cent to settle at 8,142. For Nifty, Eicher Motors was top gainer, the stock closed at 5.34 percent , while Maruti Suzuki, Idea Cellular, GAIL India, Bosch and Asian Paints were also among the gainers. Axis Bank, Hindalco, Infosys, Sun Pharma, NTPC, Kotak Mahindra Bank, TCS, Bank of Baroda, ITC and HDFC Bank were among losers.
15:39 PM: Sensex rises 43.84 points to close at 26,394.01; Nifty gains 15.25 points to 8,142.15.
2:38 PM: Sensex surges 88.08 points or 0.33 percent to stay at 26,438.25. Nifty up by 27.65 points or 0.34 percent to be at 8,154.55.
1:02 PM: Sensex at 26,547.07 points, up by 196.90 points or 0.75 percent. Nifty at 8,189.45, surges by 62.55 points or 0.77 percent.
12:02 PM: Sensex at 26,533.85, up 183.68 points or 0.70 percent. Nifty at 8,186.85, surges by 59.95 points or 0.74 percent.
