As part of the government’s industrialisation drive in the state, Tamil Nadu chief minster J Jayalalithaa on Friday launched a slew of projects as well laid foundation stones for new ventures. Collectively, the 14 projects announced will have an estimated investment of Rs 10,054 crore and will create jobs to the tune of 25,000, said a press release from the secretariat.
Some of the major projects which were inaugurated include MRF Tyres’ Rs 1,200-crore truck and car tyres plant (Phase I expansion) at Perambalur in Trichy district, which will create 1,175 jobs. Another major projects are Welspun Renewable Energy’s R975 crore; 150 MW solar power project at Trichy/Karur districts and Saint Gobain’s R550 crore manufacturing and R&D projects for glass at Perundurai in Erode district and Taramani in Chennai, respectively.
Welspun project will create 1,000 jobs while Saint Gobain will create 500 jobs, the press release added.
A Rs 450-crore Samsung India Electronics’ expansion facility at Sriperumbudur and footwear maker Growthlink Overseas’ unit at Tiruvannamalai were also among the projects inaugurated by the chief minister, the release said.
