Monsoon has regained momentum in many parts of the country. Total rainfall in the past day was 45% above average, says the Indian Meteorological Department. So far the monsoon has been surplus in Central India, deficient in the east. The season’s rainfall is in the normal range but not in excess as initially forecast. The weather office expects good monsoon rainfall in the weeks ahead. According to Skymet, good monsoon rains continued to drench Delhi, as city recorded moderate to heavy showers during the last 24 hours.
The showers will continue over the national capital region on Friday as well. The weather forecaster also says that sky will remain cloudy and overcast, making weather conditions favourable for rains to begin anytime. “Several Monsoon systems have been affecting the weather over Delhi. Firstly, a cyclonic circulation is prevailing over Northwest Madhya Pradesh and East Rajasthan. The axis of Monsoon trough is also running through northern plains in close proximity to Delhi-NCR”, says Skymet.
Monsoon rains have picked up pace over Mumbai too and the city has been recording good rains during the last 21 hours. These rains can be attributed to a cyclonic circulation which is currently over South Gujarat and its adjoining areas. This weather system has also activated the off shore trough running along the West Coast further enhancing the ongoing Mumbai rains, Skymet said.
