Cargo growth was a miniscule 0.4% y-o-y at India’s Major Ports (MPs) in February, with the 3x growth in iron ore shipments being offset by a 35% fall in thermal coal volume and 6% decline in container traffic. Growth for the April-February period stood at 6.5% y-o-y. This was led by booming iron-ore shipments and healthy growth in POL while containers registered flattish numbers.

Ports on both the East and West coasts contributed to the volumes—while Mormugao was the standout performer on the west coast, Paradip saw strong growth on the eastern side.
