India's eight core sectors grew at only 2.8% in the month of May.

 The combined Index of Eight Core Industries stands at 183.7 in May, 2016, which was 2.8% higher compared to the index of May, 2015. India’s eight core sectors grew at only 2.8% in the month of May.

The combined Index of Eight Core Industries stands at 183.7 in May, 2016, which was 2.8% higher compared to the index of May, 2015. Its cumulative growth during April to May, 2016-17 was 5.5 %.

While coal production increased by 5.5%, crude oil production decreased by 3.3% in May, 2016 over May last year. Natural Gas production decreased by 6.9%, but petroleum refinery production increased by 1.2%.

Electricity generation increased by 4.6%, cement by 2.4%, steel by 3.2% and fertilizer by 14.8%.
