The core sector growth picked up momentum in April yet again at 8.5 per cent in April versus 6.4 per cent in March.
The eight core industries coal, crude oil, natural gas, refinery products, fertilisers, steel, cement and electricity comprising nearly 38 per cent of India’s total industrial production.
“The combined Index of Eight Core Industries stands at 176.4 in April, 2016, which was 8.5 per cent higher compared to the index of April, 2015. Its cumulative growth during April to March, 2015-16 was 2.7%,” Ministry of Commerce & Industry release said.
Coal production decreased by 0.9 per cent in April, 2016 over April, 2015. Its cumulative index during April to March, 2015-16 increased by 4.6 per cent over corresponding period of previous year.
Crude Oil production decreased by 2.3 per cent in April, 2016 over April, 2015. Its cumulative index during April to March, 2015-16 decreased by 1.4 per cent over the corresponding period of previous year.
The Natural Gas production decreased by 6.8 per cent in April, 2016 over April, 2015. Its cumulative index during April to March, 2015-16 declined by 4.2 per cent over the corresponding period of previous year.
Petroleum Refinery production increased by 17.9 % in April, 2016 over April, 2015. Its cumulative index during April to March, 2015-16 increased by 3.8 per cent over the corresponding period of previous year.
Fertilizer production increased by 7.8 per cent in April, 2016 over April, 2015. Its cumulative index during April to March, 2015-16 increased by 11.3 per cent over the corresponding period of previous year.
Steel production increased by 6.1 per cent in April, 2016 over April, 2015. Its cumulative index during April to March, 2015-16 declined by 1.4 per cent over the corresponding period of previous year.
Cement production increased by 4.4 per cent in April, 2016 over April, 2015. Its cumulative index during April to March, 2015-16 increased by 4.7 per cent over the corresponding period of previous year.
Electricity generation rose by 14.7 per cent in April, 2016 over April, 2015. Its cumulative index during April to March, 2015-16 increased by 5.2 per cent over the corresponding period of previous year.
