Gujarat deputy chief minister and finance minister Nitin Patel on Tuesday proposed Rs 183,666 crore budget for the year 2018-19. Education, water resources, urban development, health, agriculture, energy and road and building are the focus areas in this budget. The state government has allotted highest Rs 27,500 crore for education in the budget. The education department will spend Rs 1,081 crore for implementation of mid-day meal scheme in primary schools of the state. To construct new class rooms for primary schools, the government has made provision of Rs 673 crore. Under the Doodh Sanjivani Yojana to improve health and nutrition status of children, the finance minister has provided Rs 377 crore that will be spent on about 29.81 lakh children of Anganwadi and primary schools. The government has announced Rs 150 crore to provide tablets at token rate of Rs 1,000 to about 3 lakh students.
