Chhattisgarh sets target of laying 5,000 km road in 2 years

In an effort to expand road network, Chhattisgarh government has set a target of laying over 5,000 km roads in two years at an investment of Rs 18,279 crore, a state government official said today.

In an effort to expand road network, Chhattisgarh government has set a target of laying over 5,000 km roads in two years at an investment of Rs 18,279 crore, a state government official said today.

Chief Minister Raman Singh while chairing a meeting of Public Works Department (PWD) yesterday reviewed all the under-construction road projects in the state and directed to complete them within stipulated time, he said.

During the meeting, the government decided to lay 5,376 km of roads in a time bound manner by March, 2018, he said.

Under the target, 360 roads, including 26 national highways, besides 144 bridges and flyovers will be constructed, the officer added.

Moreover, Singh also gave the target of completion of 100 km road construction every month and ensure plantation on sides of the roads.

Expressing pleasure over the momentum of completion of road projects in Left Wing Extremism (LWE) areas, Singh said the construction of nine different roads of length 488 km at the cost of Rs 497 crore in Bastar region in just over past two years is remarkable, the official said.

These projects involve funds both from Centre and state, he added.
