Pushing ahead with the development of the metro rail network in the state, Tamil Nadu chief minister J Jayalalithaa on Wednesday threw open a 9-km metro stretch, from Little Mount to Chennai airport, for passenger traffic.

This is the second metro line, a part of the 45-km, R14,600-crore Phase-1 of Chennai Metro Rail (CMRL), that has been opened for passenger service, the first being the Koyambedu-Alandur line that CMRL has been operating trains after the services were launched on June 29 last year.
