This upgradation of JF-17 will enhance Pakistan's "informatised warfare" and modernize the jet's weapons. The joint production of the JF-17 Block 3 by China and Pakistan has been started.
China is set to upgrade Pakistan’s fighter jets! In a bid to bolster Pakistan armed force’s capability, China is helping Islamabad to upgrade JF-17 Thunder fighter jet. The upgraded fighter jets and weaponry could be used against India, experts were quoted as saying by PTI. This development comes in the wake of Pakistan-based and Masood Azhar-headed dreaded terrorist group Jaish-e-Mohammed’s ghastly attack on CRPF convoy in Pulwama and subsequent airspace violation by Pakistan Air Force’s F-16 fighter jets.
What is JF-17?
The JF-17 is a fighter jet which is extensively being used by Pakistan. It is a single-engine multi-role light fighter and was previously known as FC-1 Xiaolong. Pakistan and China had developed these fighter jets. Russia supplied the engines. China, however, has restricted the usage of JF-17 and instead opted for more modern aircraft like Sukhoi produced by Russia. China has also opted for indigenously built stealth aircraft. Pakistan has been using the JF-17 to contend with Tejas used by Indian Air Force and South Korea’s FA-50, the PTI report said.
According to Pakistan media, Pakistan Air Force used JF-17 aircraft to violate airspace across Line of Control (LoC) on February 27. India, however, rejected such claim but producing evidence that one F-16 was shot down during this time.
What this JF-17 upgradation means to India?
This upgradation of JF-17 will enhance Pakistan’s “informatised warfare” and modernize the jet’s weapons. The joint production of the JF-17 Block 3 by China and Pakistan has been started. Chinese legislator Yang Wei is the chief designer of the fighter jet. Chinese military often uses “Informatised warfare”. Under “Informatised warfare” tactics, China utilises information and communication technology in modern wars.
According to experts, JF-17 will be equipped with active electronically scanned array radar. This radar will help it gather details during combat boosting its capability to attack multiple targets at the same time. There will be a helmet-mounted display and sight system that will allow pilots to target whatever he sees. The upgraded JF-17 will be able to match the capability of the improved version of the F-16 fighter jet.
