This comes after China has once again blocked India's efforts to get Azhar listed as the global terrorist at the United Nations Security Council.
Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) founder Masood Azhar assets have been frozen by France! Backing the Narendra Modi government’s effort to designate terror group Jaish-e-Mohammed founder Masood Azhar as a global terrorist at United Nations, the French government has made a laudable move to freeze the assets of the mastermind behind Pulwama Attack on CRPF convoy. French foreign ministry, interior ministry, finance ministry in a joint statement said that apart from freezing Azhar’s assets, Paris will press for including the Pakistan-based terrorist’s name on the European Union list of persons suspected of being involved in terrorism.
This comes after China has once again blocked India’s efforts to get Azhar listed as the global terrorist at the United Nations Security Council. India has been trying for some time to get Azhar designated Azhar as a global terrorist but Beijing has repeatedly shown reservation over the Azhar issue. Masood Azhar’s JeM has targetted common man and security personnel in India. The group was behind the Parliament attack, Pathankot attack and February 14 attack on CRPF convoy in Pulwama in Jammu and Kashmir in which 40 security personnel lost their lives.
Pakistan has said that Azhar has been residing in the country. Islamabad is under tremendous pressure from global powers to act against terror groups, terrorists and check cross-border terrorism emanating from its territory.
Here is the full text of the statement issued by France on Masood Azhar and solidarity with India:
A deadly attack took place in Pulwama on 14th February 2019, claiming over 40 victims from the Indian police forces. The Jaish-e-Mohammed, which the United Nations has deemed to be a terrorist organization since 2001, has claimed responsibility for this attack.
France has always been and always will be by India’s side in the fight against terrorism.
France has decided to sanction Masood Azhar at the national level by freezing his assets in application of the Monetary and Financial Code. A joint decree of the Ministries of the Interior, and Economy and Finance was published today in the Official Gazette.
We will raise this issue with our European partners with a view to including Masood Azhar on the European Union list of persons, groups and entities involved in terrorist acts, based on this decree.
