PayU, a fintech platform in India, has announced a strategic partnership with Bengaluru-based company CoRover.ai, the company behind BharatGPT, to introduce AI-powered payments that work across more than 100 Indian languages and dialects, according to an official statement.
Under this partnership, PayU’s secure payment infrastructure will be integrated with CoRover’s conversational AI platform powered by BharatGPT. This will allow users to make payments using voice commands and natural conversations in multiple Indian languages. The company claims that its goal is to make digital payments easier for India’s growing number of voice-first internet users.
By combining AI technology with a trusted payment system, both companies aim to simplify online transactions for the next 500 million internet users in India who prefer interacting with technology through voice, the statement mentioned.
One of the early applications of this partnership will be voice-based UPI payments on Afterlife, a digital succession planning platform that uses CoRover’s Voice AI. PayU also claims to support payments for Kanhaji.ai, an AI-powered devotional platform launched by CoRover. In the future, both companies plan to expand these AI payment features across sectors such as e-commerce, travel, OTT platforms, and BFSI.
The companies will also explore integrating new innovations like UPI Circle and UPI Reserve Pay from National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI). These features could allow AI agents to start and complete transactions within a conversation while ensuring strong security and compliance standards.
Manas Mishra, Chief Product Officer at PayU, said that “trust and compliance remain critical when AI handles payments”. He added that the “next phase of digital payments will likely happen within AI-driven conversations, and voice-first users should get the same level of security and reliability”.
Ankush Sabharwal, CEO of CoRover.ai, said “conversational AI is changing how people interact with technology. When AI can understand user intent, complete tasks, and make payments within a conversation, the entire commerce experience becomes smoother and more convenient”.
