The latest round of online applications to apply for the PLI scheme for white goods (Air Conditioners and LED lights) saw 38 applicants with a net committed investment of Rs 4,121 crore, ended on October 12 2024, the commerce ministry said on Monday. The scheme, which opened applications on July 15, 2024, saw 43 per cent of the new applicants from the MSME sector.

“This shows the confidence among MSMEs to become part of the value chain of manufacturing of components of ACs and LED Lights,” the ministry said in a statement.

Launched by the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade(DPIIT), the scheme includes eight existing beneficiaries of the Production Linked Incentive Scheme for White Goods (PLIWG) which committed net incremental investment of Rs 1,285 crore.

The other 30 are new applicants with a committed investment of Rs 2,836 crore proposing to make different components of ACs and LED Lights across India.

The ministry said investments proposed span across 13 states and 49 new locations while new manufacturing clusters are coming up at Noida-Greater Noida in UP, Neemrana and Bhiwari in Rajasthan, Aurangabad-Pune in Maharashtra, Sanad, Gujarat and Sri City in Andhra Pradesh.

A mix of multinational and domestic companies including five additional foreign companies are deploying Rs 245 crore apart from 15 existing companies investing Rs 2,287 Crore, the ministry added.

The scheme is likely to see Rs 11,083 crore investment in the component manufacturing ecosystem of the ACs and LED Lights industry and generate around 80,486 direct jobs. Moreover, it is likely to lead to the total production of components of ACs and LEDs in India of about Rs 1,81,975 crore, the ministry informed.

In April 2021, the cabinet had approved the PLI scheme for White Goods (Air Conditioners and LED lights) to be implemented over FY22-29 with an outlay of Rs 6,238 crore.
