Southern Railway will phase out the UTS-on Mobile (UTS) app from March 1, 2026 and has urged passengers to switch to the RailOne app, describing it as the “single, unified, and official mobile platform” for ticketing and passenger services. In its official release, the railway stated that ticket booking, food ordering, tracking of the trains, and grievance redressal are all under one roof, reducing effort and enhancing the overall travel experience.
UTS app shutdown
As per Southern Railway, the UTS app is being decommissioned in phases. In the first stage, season ticket booking/renewal and new user registration were disabled on UTS. After this, platform ticket booking and R-Wallet top-up were also closed, even though the app continues to be on the App Store. The railway has also clarified that users who download or update the latest version of the UTS app will not be allowed to book platform tickets or recharge their R-Wallet through UTS.
What will happen to the R-Wallet balance?
Southern Railway has issued a reassurance on commuter funds, mentioning that the existing R-Wallet balance on UTS will remain “completely safe and secure.” The available balance “will not lapse or be lost” due to the US decommissioning and will be available for use on the RailOne app.
How will RailOne benefit the passengers?
The railway is positioning RailOne as an all-in-one app that will support unreserved, season, and platform ticketing. It will also provide access to reserved ticketing services through a single interface. Among the key passenger benefits are
1. One app, multiple tickets: Passengers will be able to book reserved tickets, unreserved tickets, and platform tickets from the same app.
2. PNR tools in one place: Users will be able to track the PNR status and will be able to manage cancellations. They will also get to their refund status.
3. On-seat food delivery: Through RailOne, passengers can order food to their seats from IRCTC-approved vendors.
4. Better journey planning: RailOne provides information on live running status, updated arrival and departure status, delays, real-time coach positioning, and platform information to assist passengers in boarding with ease.
5. More payment options: The booking procedure can be done through secure payments like UP/R-Wallet, debit/credit cards, and net banking.
6. Easy complaint registering: Complaints, feedback, and service requests can be made through integrated RailMadad assistance.
Southern Railways has also asked the passengers to sign in by using existing IRCTC or UTS credentials and urged commuters to transition early in order to ensure uninterrupted access to the railway services after March 1.
