Prime Minister flagged off three new Amrit train services during a visit to Kerala on Friday afternoon. Two weekly trains will originate from the capital city of Thiruvananthapuram and ferry passengers to Tambaram and North-Charlapalli. A third train — the Nagercoil-Mangaluru Amrit Bharat Express — will connect the southern tip of Tamil Nadu with coastal Karnataka through Kerala.
“Today, the central government’s efforts for the development of Kerala have gained new momentum. From today, rail connectivity in Kerala has become stronger. An initiative has been launched to make Thiruvananthapuram the country’s major startup hub,” he said while addressing the inaugural event.
According to PIB, these additions aim to enhance long-distance and regional connectivity across multiple states, thereby making travel more affordable and safe. The service is being positioned as a faster and more affordable long-distance option to travel through the southern states.
