Mumbai train passengers should check schedules before travelling on Sunday, August 23, 2026 as Central Railway and Western Railway have announced maintenance blocks that will impact suburban services on key sections.

Central Railway will operate daytime mega blocks on the Main and Harbour lines, resulting in diversions and suspension of services. Western Railway will undergo a four-hour Jumbo Block between Borivali and Bhayandar during the intervening night of August 22 and 23, with some services set to be cancelled.

On the other hand, the ongoing traffic and power block at Chhatrapati Shivaji Mahraj Terminus (CSMT) platform No.16 has been extended until September 5, resulting in continued short termination of some Mail/Express trains.

Main Line: CSMT-Vidyavihar block

Central Railway’s Mumbai Division will conduct a mega block on the Up and Down slow lines between CSMT and Vidyavihar from 10:55 am to 3:55 pm on August 23 for “various engineering and maintenance works.”

During the block, Down slow services leaving CSMT between 10:48 am and 3:45 pm will be redirected to the Down fast line between CSMT and Vidyavihar. These trains will halt at Byculla, Sion, Dadar, Parel, Matunga and Kurla before being diverted back to the Down slow line at Vidyavihar.

Similarly, Up slow services leaving Ghatkopar between 10:19 am and 3:52 pm will be rerouted to the Up fast line between Vidyavihar and CSMT. They will stop at Kurla, Parel, Sion, Dadar, Matunga and Byculla.

Harbour Line: Kurla-Vashi services suspended

A separate mega block will be in operation on the Up and Down Harbour lines between Kurla and Vashi from 11:10 am to 4:10 pm on August 23. Down Harbour Line services leaving CSMT for Vashi, Panvel, Belapur between 10:34 am and 3:36 will be halted.

In the opposite direction, Up Harbour Line services for CSMT leaving Panvel, Vashi, Belapur between 10:17 am and 3:47 pm will also remain paused.

Special locals, alternative route for passengers

Alternative arrangements have been made by the Central Railway during the Hrabour Line block. Special suburban services will run on the CSMT-Kurla-CSMT and Panvel-Vashi-Panvel sections.

Harbour Line passengers will also be allowed to travel through the Thane-Vashi-Nerul route between 10 am and 6 pm. Central Railway has asked passengers to check the altered timetable before planning their journey.

Western Line: Borivali-Bhayandar Jumbo block

Western Railway will undergo a Jumbo Block on the Up Local and Down Local lines between Borivali and Bhayandar from 12:30 am to 4:30 am during the intervening night of August 22 and 23.

DRM-Mumbai Central stated the block is being undertaken for “essential maintenance work”, adding, “Some train services will be cancelled during the block period.” The official post has not mentioned which services will be cancelled. Western Railway said the list of affected trains can be availed at the Station Master’s Office.

CSMT Platform 16 block extended till September 5

Central Railway has also extended the traffic and power block at CSMT Platform 16 until September 5, 2026, for redevelopment work by the Rail Land Development Authority (RLDA.)

As per the official advisory, essential passenger amenity and structural works are being carried out at Platforms 16 and 17 as part of the redevelopment. The extension means some Mail/Express trains will continue to short-terminate before CSMT.

Train Nos. 12180 Howrah-CSMT Express, 22120 Madgoan-CSMT Tejas Express and 12112 Amravati-CSMT Express will short-terminate at Dadar.

Train No. 12134 Mangaluru-CSMT Express will continue to short-terminate at Thane.

Central Railway has requested passengers to check the revised timetable before planning their journey.
