Western Railway will carry out a major night block on the night of (January 9) on the Kandivali–Borivali section as part of the ongoing sixth-line construction work, a move that will disrupt suburban as well as Mail and Express train services over the next two days.

The work is part of a 30-day block that began on the night of December 20/21, 2025, and will continue until January 18, 2026. Due to line blocks, suspension of the fifth line and speed restrictions, several services will be cancelled, short-terminated, short-originated or rescheduled.

Major night block begins tonight

According to a press release issued by Western Railway’s Chief Public Relations Officer Vineet Abhishek, a major block will be undertaken tonight (January 9/10) for the insertion and dismantling of points at Kandivali.

The Up Fast line will remain blocked from 23:15 hrs to 03:15 hrs, while the Down Fast line will be blocked from 01:00 hrs to 04:30 hrs. Another major block is scheduled tomorrow night (January 10/11) for the insertion of Point 101 on the Down Fast line between Kandivali and Malad stations.

During the January 10/11 block, the Up and Down Fast lines will be blocked from 01:00 hrs to 06:30 hrs, while the Up Slow line will remain blocked from 01:00 hrs to 04:00 hrs.

Over 250 suburban services to be cancelled

The impact on suburban services will be significant. On January 10, a total of 101 suburban trains—50 Up and 51 Down—will remain cancelled. The disruption will increase on January 11, when 153 suburban services—79 Up and 74 Down—are scheduled to be cancelled.

Several Mail and Express trains will also be affected. The Nandurbar–Borivali Express and Ahmedabad–Borivali Express running on January 10 will short-terminate at Vasai Road, while their return services on January 11 will short-originate from Vasai Road. Four long-distance trains will also be rescheduled, with delays ranging from 20 minutes to one hour.

Western Railway has advised passengers travelling during the block period to check updated train schedules and plan their journeys accordingly.
