Addressing the media at BJP’s Karnataka office, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, said there is a lot of misinformation about the Centre not giving due funds to the state. She further said that the numbers on Railway allocation for the state by the previous and present governments will be “shocking”.
She highlighted the state’s railway budget, noting the average annual outlay between 2009-14 was Rs 835 crore. “However, under the Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi-led government, it was Rs 7,559 crores for the state in FY 2024-25 for Railways alone,” she added.
Railway projects in Karnataka
Talking about the railway projects in Karnataka, Sitharaman highlighted that as of now there are 31 railway projects underway for laying new tracks of 3,840 kilometres. These projects are being carried out at a cost of Rs 47,016 crores.
She also mentioned that in the last 10 years, 38 rail flyovers and under-bridges have been constructed in Karnataka, adding that currently, the state has seven Vande Bharat trains in operation.
