IT major HCLTech has established a Global Capability Center (GCC) in Pune in collaboration with German chemicals and biotechnology company Wacker Chemie, the company said. In an exchange filing, the IT firm shared that the GCC will help support Wacker Chemie’s engineering, IT and digital transformation initiatives on a flexible, resilient and future-ready delivery foundation.

“The Global Capability Center is an important step in strengthening our global delivery and digital execution capabilities,” said Fabian Seibold, director, Wacker Excellence Hub Pune, said in a statement. “HCLTech’s experience in building and scaling such centers allows us to move forward with a model that supports agility, governance and long-term growth.”

Wacker was already an HCLTech client, having signed a five-year end-to-end IT transformation deal back in 2021.

Several Indian IT firms have ramped up strategic partnerships with GCCs in the recent past as the segment continues to boom in the country. Usually, the two follow a build-operate-transfer (BOT) model where the IT firm sets up and runs a GCC before handing full ownership and control back to the global corporation.

In July, HCLTech signed a seven-year agreement with insurance company The Guardian Life Insurance Company of America to modernise its operations and accelerate AI-led growth. Under the contract, the IT firm will also acquire the insurer’s Indian GCC arm called Guardian India for $10.5 million.

Currently, HCLTech has more than 250 GCC clients.
