Maruti Suzuki India reported a 36.4% year-on-year increase in consolidated net sales for the first quarter of FY27, aided by record volumes, robust SUV demand and higher exports. The country’s largest carmaker posted a net profit of ₹3,352 crore, marginally ahead of Bloomberg consensus estimates of ₹3,250 crore.
Total sales during the quarter rose 29.3% to an all-time high of 682,724 units, while exports increased 28.6%. SUV sales emerged as the key growth driver, surging 44.6% year-on-year, helping the company expand its domestic market share to 41.2%, a gain of 2.3 percentage points over the year-ago period. The company also outperformed Street expectations on the top line. Consolidated net sales stood at ₹53,950 crore, up 36.4% year-on-year, compared with Bloomberg’s estimate of ₹52,950 crore.
The automaker recorded its highest-ever quarterly sales volume of 682,724 vehicles, up 29.3% from the year-ago period. Domestic demand was led by continued traction in both entry-level cars and sport utility vehicles (SUVs), while exports remained another key growth driver.
Sales of small cars increased 34.1% during the quarter, while SUV volumes surged 44.6%, helping Maruti strengthen its position in India’s fastest-growing passenger vehicle segment. Exports rose 28.6% as well.
Maruti’s domestic market share improved by 2.3 percentage points year-on-year to 41.2%, marking a sharp recovery after losing ground to rivals over the past few years. The commissioning of its second manufacturing facility at Kharkhoda also supported production during the quarter, while dealer inventory remained healthy at around 13 days.
Despite the strong operating performance, profitability came under pressure due to escalating commodity prices and supply disruptions arising from geopolitical tensions in the region.
Separately, the board approved an initial investment of ₹561 crore for four compressed biogas (CBG) manufacturing projects, signalling Maruti’s continued push towards alternative fuels. The company said it would evaluate further expansion in CBG production after assessing the performance of the first phase.
