India’s wholesale inflation rises to 0.83% in December, food inflation flat, manufactured goods turn costlier

The wholesale price inflationWPI Inflation edged higher in December to 0.83%, driven mainly by rising prices of manufactured goods and minerals.

“Positive rate of inflation in December, 2025 is primarily due to increase in prices of other manufacturing, minerals, manufacture of machinery and equipment, manufacture of food products and textiles etc.,” the official data said.

On a sequential basis, wholesale prices rose 0.71% in December compared with November 2025, indicating a pick-up in price momentum towards the end of the year.

Manufacturing prices rise, add pressure to WPI

Manufactured products, which carry the highest weight in the WPI basket, recorded an inflation rate of 1.82% in December 2025. This sector continued to remain the biggest contributor to overall wholesale inflation. The index for this group increased by 0.41% from 145.0 (provisional) for the month of November to 145.6 (provisional) in December.

Food inflation flat in December

The food index, which includes food articles and manufactured food products, showed no inflation in December, remaining flat, 0.00% compared with the same period last year.

Fuel and power prices continued to stay in negative territory. The fuel and power index recorded a deflation of 2.31% in December 2025, helping contain overall wholesale inflation.
