The Index of Industrial Production (IIP) rises 7.8% in December 2025, marking the strongest pace in over two years. The IIP growth rate for the month of November 2025 was 6.7% (Quick Estimate) in the month of November 2025.

“Industry momentum further strengthened in December 2025 as the Index of Industrial production rose by 7.8%, reaching its highest level in over 2 years, after registering a high growth of 7.2%(RE) in November 2025,” the government data said.

The Quick Estimates of IIP stands at 170.3 against 158.0 in December 2024.

Manufacturing growth accelerates to 8.1% in December

The manufacturing sector drove much of the growth, expanding 8.1% in December followed by mining and electricity.

Under Manufacturing, key segments such as computer, electronic and optical products expanded 34.9%. Motor vehicles, trailers and semi-trailers gained 33.5%. Sixteen of the 23 manufacturing industry groups reported higher output compared with December 2024.

Mining and power output add to December industrial growth

Mining grew 6.8% and electricity generation rose 6.3% in December, underscoring a broad pickup in economic activity. Together with manufacturing, these sectors pushed the overall IIP index to 170.3 points, up from 158.0 in December 2024.

The Indices of Industrial Production for the Mining, Manufacturing and Electricity sectors for the month of December 2025 stand at 153.0, 169.9 and 204.9 respectively.

The government data highlighted that the growth was apparent across different product categories. Infrastructure and construction goods, consumer durables, and consumer non-durables posted healthy gains, reflecting rising demand. Capital goods and intermediate goods also showed solid increases, signaling investment and production linkages strengthening in the economy.

The next release of the Index for January 2026 is scheduled to be on Monday, 2nd March 2026. The Quick Estimates for December 2025 and the final revision for November 2025 have been compiled at weighted response rates of 89.81 percent and 92.91 percent.
