Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will embark on an official visit to Canada and the United States from August 25 to September 2, to showcase India’s growth story to global investors and position India as a preferred destination for long-term capital, innovation and strategic partnerships, while advancing economic cooperation.

The visit comes as India seeks to deepen its integration with global capital and business networks, with Sitharaman set to use meetings with investors and CEOs to highlight India’s growth prospects and investment opportunities across key sectors.

In Toronto, Sitharaman will participate in the inaugural Economic and Financial Dialogue with Canada’s Finance and National Revenue Minister François-Philippe Champagne. The dialogue will cover macroeconomic developments, financial-sector cooperation, bilateral investment opportunities and shared international priorities.

The engagement is also expected to build on recent discussions between the two countries around energy, critical minerals, technology, innovation and resilient supply chains, alongside efforts towards a Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA).

A key part of the Canada leg will be an Investment Roundtable with senior representatives from the energy, artificial intelligence and critical minerals sectors. The interaction will seek to “facilitate greater business-to-business linkages, identify investment opportunities and promote long-term commercial partnerships” between India and Canada, the finance ministry said in a statement.

Opportunities in GIFT City-IFSC will also be highlighted as part of the investment discussions.

Sitharaman will separately participate in a Business Roundtable with Canadian business leaders, alongside senior Managing Directors and Chief Executive Officers of Indian public sector banks. The discussions will focus on long-term investment, financial-sector growth and greater collaboration between businesses and financial institutions in the two countries.

Her Toronto schedule will also include one-to-one meetings with Canadian CEOs and senior corporate leaders. These discussions are expected to focus on India’s growth prospects, investment opportunities and ways for Canadian companies to expand their presence in India.

The Finance Minister will then travel to the US, visiting Chicago, Asheville and New York between August 28 and September 2.

In Chicago, Sitharaman will meet prominent investors and senior private-sector leaders at a roundtable, followed by one-to-one meetings with selected CEOs and company executives. The discussions will centre on India’s investment opportunities, its economic outlook and ways to expand business and investment partnerships between the two countries.

Her Chicago engagements will also take in India’s growing innovation ecosystem. At the University of Chicago’s Polsky Centre for Entrepreneurship and Innovation, Sitharaman will exchange views on entrepreneurship, innovation and technology commercialisation, while exploring stronger links with India’s rapidly expanding startup ecosystem.

The global economic agenda will come into sharper focus in Asheville, North Carolina, where Sitharaman will lead the Indian delegation at the G20 Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors meeting on August 31 and September 1.

The final leg of the visit will take Sitharaman to New York, where she will participate in an investor roundtable with senior representatives of leading companies and hold one-to-one meetings with CEOs and senior executives from the financial sector.

The discussions will focus on investment opportunities, India’s economic and financial landscape and ways to strengthen financial and institutional linkages between India and the US.

Sitharaman will also participate in a bell-ringing ceremony hosted by NASDAQ. The engagement will provide an opportunity to gain insights into developments in technology-driven financial markets and the growing interface between technology and capital markets.
